Simultaneum church

Ajouter à la sélection
Built in 1417 by Earl Burghard, and rebuilt in 1885 in a Gothic Revival style, the simultaneum church shows a group of paintings on the lower surface of its vaults. These paintings were covered in whitewash and forgotten in the XVIth century. They were then uncovered in 1864. These frescoes were refurbished in 1967 and listed historical monument. They are part of the most ancient paintings of the east of France and depict some scenes from the Bible, like the Virgin's coronation, patron saint of the church. We can also find mortuary steles of the Earls of La Petite Pierre. Another regional special feature is that this church is a simultaneous church, which means that it welcoms both protestant and catholic masses since 1737. The church is open everyday from 8a.m to 6p.m
