Orbey

In Orbey, plunge into the heart of the Pays Welche and discover its traditions, heritage, history, leisure activities, gastronomy and, above all, its authenticity. The village has a thousand years of history.

Founded in the Middle Ages, the village was first under the aegis of the Hohnack castle and then the Pairis abbey. It was first mentioned in 1049 under the name of Orbeiz.

Nestling in a vast green valley at the foot of the Black and White Lakes and the great ridge of the Vosges, Orbey is a veritable natural treasure trove. Numerous hiking trails cross its forests and meadows, offering breathtaking panoramas from the mountain peaks. Guides and maps with routes are available from the tourist office.

The famous Battle of the Linge, on the Vosges Front, was the scene of bitter fighting in 1915 during the First World War. Come and discover the trenches where German and French soldiers fought at the Linge Memorial, between April and 11th November (the symbolic date of the conflict).

Just a few minutes from the village centre, you can have fun with your family or friends: try the adventure park, the barefoot trail, paintball, 4-season rail sledging, MTB, orienteering circuits or scavenger hunts (only in French) for children. For thrill-seekers, don't miss the Bike Park for downhill MTB for a dose of adrenalin! In winter, when nature puts on its white coat, enjoy the pleasures of snow activities.

For those with a sweet tooth, a stop at one of the mountain farm inns is a must, to indulge in the famous Marcaire meal. Simple but tasty dishes typical of the mountain gastronomy of the Vosges Massif.
