Description Horaires

Lapoutroie, a picturesque mountain village, combines nature, historical heritage and local produce.

In 842, Lapoutroie, known as Sconerloch, was part of the kingdom of Lothaire I. At the time, it was mainly a village of charcoal burners. However, the presence of an ancient Roman road demonstrates the ancient nature of the village. The peak known as ‘lo Faudé’ stands on the municipal boundary, and appears to have been a place devoted to the mysteries of the Druidic cult. The village has had an eventful history over the centuries.

Lapoutroie is a verdant commune in the Pays Welche, nestling at the bottom of a splendid valley bordered by large pine forests. This is an area with distinct traditions in the heart of the Vosges, where the Welche dialect is a Romance dialect.

The Tête des Faux is a famous battlefield from the First World War, and a hike there will take you back to those mountain battles, with the many relics still present in the area.

There are many signposted hikes to choose from. The climb up to the Tour du Faudé offers a panoramic view of the Pays Welche. You can also go to the Etang du Devin, a peat bog and a mysterious, wild place, much to the delight of hikers and botanists.

Today, Lapoutroie is a great place to live. You can also sample local products, such as munsters, beers, brandies and even Alsatian whisky, direct from the producers.
A former 18th-century coaching inn houses the Musée des Eaux de Vie. Discover the old stills and the many collections of mignonettes, posters and ancient bottles.

Rose and Louis, two junior investigators, invite families to help the giant Guéllef reconstruct a recipe during a walk punctuated by riddles. Roadbook (only in French) available at the tourist office.
