Description Horaires

Ammerschwihr is a charming wine-growing town nestling in the heart of Alsace, on the famous Alsace Wine Route, which is ideal for lovers of wine and picturesque landscapes.

The ‘city of three blackbirds’ has a long history. It has been occupied since Roman times. Ammerschwihr is mentioned in 869 under the name of ‘Amalrici Villare’ or ‘village of Amalrich’. During the 20th century, 85% of the village was destroyed in the final struggle to regain Alsace during the fierce fighting in the Colmar pocket in the winter of 1944-45. Like a phoenix, the village has risen from the ashes to reassert its charm and picturesque appearance.

The church, built in honour of Saint-Martin, still stands and its superb Rinckenbach organ has recently been restored. The village is also surrounded by ramparts, vestiges of its medieval past. Admire the Porte Haute, the Tour des Fripons (1608) and the Tour des Bourgeois (1535).

Today, this quiet, flower-filled town offers a pleasant blend of tradition and modernity.

Ammerschwihr is renowned for its fine wines, especially the Grand Cru du Kaefferkopf, and for being the commune in the département with the highest number of winegrowers in relation to the number of inhabitants. Take a stroll through the old town, which is full of sights and sounds, with its beautiful half-timbered houses decorated with flowers and its vineyard garden.

On the outskirts of the town, surrounded by greenery, the golf course offers an exceptional setting between vineyards and forests.

For families, come and discover the wine-growing town in a fun way by taking the fun walk road book with you (only in French): set off in search of clues to solve the riddle. Fun guaranteed!
